MMSx Authority Policies
Last updated:
MMSx Authority operates as a nonprofit standards-setting body for the global fitness and wellness industry. Our policies ensure impartiality, transparency, and mission alignment. Every framework we create, and every certification delivered through BFS, is designed to raise trust, protect the public, and professionalize the fitness field worldwide.
Our guiding pledge: Evidence over hype. Safety over shortcuts. Standards over opinions.
1. Impartiality & Nonprofit Mission
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, MMSx Authority maintains strict impartiality in all decisions. We are mission-driven, not profit-driven. No individual, partner, or provider can influence the outcome of certifications, accreditations, or standard publications for personal or commercial gain.
- Decisions are made by independent committees of experts.
- Conflicts of interest must be declared and managed transparently.
- Our role is to serve the public good, not private interests.
2. Standards Development & Accreditation
MMSx, through IMSO, develops open standards (MMSx/IMSO/TE series). BFS applies these standards via ISO/IEC 17024–aligned certification and accreditation processes.
- Standards are peer-reviewed, publicly referenced, and globally applicable.
- Providers (CABs) seeking accreditation undergo rigorous audits, faculty verification, and surveillance.
- All standards and accreditations are designed to close gaps in the fitness industry and elevate global practice.
3. Candidate Certification Policies
Certification programs (e.g., S101 Fitness Trainer, S102 Yoga Trainer, S103 MMSx Trainer) follow a transparent process:
- Eligibility verification and recognition of prior learning (RPL).
- Exam delivery via secure item banks, standardized rubrics, and impartial assessors.
- 3-year certification terms, renewable with CPD and surveillance requirements.
- Revocation policies apply in cases of ethics breaches or malpractice.
4. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
CPD ensures professionals remain current with evolving science. BFS mandates 20–24 CPD hours annually, accepted in forms such as workshops, supervised practice, peer-reviewed research, and professional teaching.
5. Ethics & Conduct
All certified professionals and accredited providers must abide by the MMSx Authority Code of Ethics:
- Do no harm — client safety is paramount.
- Use only evidence-based practices and avoid pseudoscience.
- Respect diversity, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity.
- Uphold integrity, transparency, and honesty in all services.
6. Privacy & Data Protection
MMSx Authority respects the privacy of candidates, providers, and the public. We adhere to GDPR, HIPAA (where applicable), and best practices in data protection.
- Personal data is collected only for certification and accreditation purposes.
- Data is never sold or shared with unauthorized third parties.
- Access, correction, and opt-out options are available upon request.
7. Complaints & Appeals
To ensure accountability, we provide structured processes for complaints and appeals:
- Complaints may be submitted by candidates, providers, or the public.
- Appeals on exam results or accreditation decisions are reviewed by independent panels.
- Policies guarantee fairness, transparency, and documented outcomes.
8. Transparency & Public Trust
We commit to publishing annual reports, Form 990 filings, and registry updates openly. Our nonprofit structure exists to serve the fitness industry and the public — not private interests.
Missionful Commitment: Every MMSx Authority policy is designed to move the fitness industry away from fragmented, opinion-driven practice and toward an evidence-led, globally recognized standard that protects clients and empowers professionals.
